same same, but different

  1. So yesterday we got back from our first incedible week at Maeteman Elephant Camp. Each morning I wake up with the sun to meet Don, the mahout of Gamline Taung at her stable. I ride her to the water hose where we bathe her before she practices her painting (yes, she is learning to paint!) Then she eagerly drags her stack of grass back to her stable to eat before the tourists come. After breakfast we watch the show the elephants put on for the tourists then the three of us volunteers are off to do our daily chores of sweeping the stalls and making/feeding the elephants their "vitamins." Between lunch and the second bathtime in the late afternoon, we find all sorts of things to do with the help of Jinn who spends his day with us at the camp. We've taken part in the very sweaty task of cutting grass which could be a blog in itself. We've overseen and attempted the long and detailed process of forming elephant dung paper. We went to the market and on to the nearby village where we met a very rambunctious monkey. But it's not all work here at Maeteman, we ended our week ziplining in the mountains nearby the camp.

    Amazing.

We spent last night at the night bazaar which is a huge market at which I desperately tried to haggle for some cheap clothes which I am in dire need of.

Now we are dedicated to spend our weekend taking in the sights and sounds of the Loikrathong Festival that will be going on here in Chiang Mai.

    Bye for now!
